Geography
The village is located from south to north along the stretch of the highway from Veliky Novgorod to St. Petersburg on the federal highway "Russia" ( M10 , E 105 Moscow - St. Petersburg ), at a distance of 5 km from the regional center. From the administrative center of the rural settlement of the village of Trubichino , Vitka is separated by the small river Pestova , on the right bank of the river between the villages is the church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin. Along the entire western part of the village at a distance of about 1 km from the center runs the Chudovo railway - st. Novgorod on Volkhov is the remaining section put into operation on May 18, 1871 [2] of the Chudovo-Novgorod- Shimsk - Staraya Russa railway (most of the road was not restored after the Great Patriotic War ), and the river Pitba flows into the eastern part of the village, which flows into Volkhov .
History
In 1941, during the Great Patriotic War, Vitka was occupied by Nazi troops. On January 19, 1944, the troops of the Volkhov Front, under the command of Army General Meretskov, liberated the village ( Leningrad-Novgorod operation ).
Attractions
In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated 02.20.95 No. 176 “On Approving the List of Historic and Cultural Heritage Sites of Federal (All-Russian) Significance”, the three-span bridge of the 18th century across the Vitochka River between Trubichino and Vitka [3] [4] .
