History
Archaeological excavations show human settlements in the northern region of the modern city of Pisek back in the Paleolithic era . Celts lived here in the Middle Ages , which is proved by the discovery of two burial mounds with treasures of Celts from gold items, ingots and silver jewelry.
From the end of the 12th century, village settlements were located on the right bank of the Otava River. These settlements were called sandy - Pisek, where the shopping center of St. Wenceslas was formed. The first mention of the Pisek settlement is found in the Charter of King Wenceslas I of 1243 , where it was written about the planning of the construction of the royal castle on the rocky bank of the river.
In 1254 , the son of Vaclav I - King Przemysl Otakar II , the city was founded on the site of these settlements. The city owes its name to coastal sands rich in non-ferrous metals. It was they who brought glory to the city in the Middle Ages - they found gold in them.
