In 1848 he sat in the ranks of moderate liberals in the Tuscan Chamber of Deputies. Victor Emmanuel II made him a senator. His main works are Lettere per i fanciulli, Lettere giovanili, Dell'Educazione ( 1849 ), Dell 'Istruzione (Florence, 1871 ), Elogi e biografie raccolte (Florence, 1873 ).
