Jodi Lynn Picault ( born Jodi Lynn Picoult , born May 19, 1966 ) is an American writer. The author of 13 bestselling charts on the New York Times. In 2003 she was awarded the New England Bookseller Award in the field of fiction. Laureate of The Margaret Alexander Edwards Award, established by the American Library Association .

Biography
Born and raised in Nesconset, Long Island [4] , New York , but moved to New Hampshire at the age of 13. Pickolt wrote her first story, “The Omar That Was Misunderstood,” at age 5. She studied writing at Princeton University and graduated in 1987. She published two short stories in Seventeen magazine while she was in college. After graduating from college, she often changed jobs (from editing textbooks to teaching English in the eighth grade).
Jody Pickolt is married to Tim Van Lear, whom she met in 1989 in college [5] . They have three children: Samantha, Kyle and Jake.
