Biography
Born on January 18 ( January 31 ), 1914 in Vasilkov (now Kiev region , Ukraine ). The author of many popular songs [1] . Among them are “ When a Distant Friend Sings ”, “Mrs. Warsaw”, “Like Deals, the Old Man”, “This is for You, Romantics”, “Under Our Sports Banners”.
Famous composers wrote the music for the songs to the verses by J. Helemsky: M. I. Blanter , V. I. Muradeli , B. A. Mokrousov , E. S. Kolmanovsky , Y. A. Frenkel , and O. B. Feltsman . Most of his songs were performed by M.N. Bernes .
Member of the CPSU (b) since 1939. During the years of World War II, he was a correspondent for the front-line newspapers On the Destruction of the Enemy and Suvorovets. Member of the USSR SP (1945). Member of the Moscow branch of the joint venture.
He died in Moscow on September 6, 2003 . He was buried in the new Donskoy cemetery (Columbarium 18).
Family
Son - Alexander Helemsky (born 1943), mathematician, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences [2] , an advanced amateur history of Britain [3] [4] .
