Geography
Area - 1710 km². The main river is Sluch . A number of nature reserves are located on the territory of the district — Belchakivskie springs , Marininsko-Ustensky granites , Sokoliniye Gory landscape reserve, Brishche Zoological Reserve, etc.

The district was founded in 1957 .

Economics
