Title
The name of the city in Japanese is written in two Chinese characters . The first ( Chinese. ) Means "one thousand", the second Chinese. 葉 - "leaves." The name is first mentioned as the name of one of the areas under the control of the so-called " kuni-no-miyatsuko " ( Jap. 千葉 国 造 , Chiba Kuni no Miyatsuko, Chiba-kuni-no-miyatsuko). [1] . The name was adopted by the local branch of the Taira clan , whose representatives moved to the territory of the modern city at the end of the Heian period . This branch of the Taira clan adopted this name and became known as the Tiba clan. The Chiba clan had a significant influence on the territory of the modern Chiba prefecture until the beginning of the Azuchi-Momoyama period . The name Chiba was chosen for Chiba Prefecture when it was created in 1873 , at the beginning of the Meiji era [2]
