Commemorative and jubilee coins of the USSR - coins of the State Bank of the USSR dedicated to commemorative events, anniversaries of historical figures and cultural figures, as well as various buildings, monuments and animals. Unlike regular minted coins intended for everyday use, commemorative coins were intended for collectors and were issued in a limited edition. Mass coinage began in 1965 , when a 1 ruble coin was issued, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany, with a circulation of 60 million copies. Coins were issued in honor of various anniversary events, such as, for example, the anniversary of the October Revolution , the anniversaries of prominent personalities - Lenin , Mendeleev , Pushkin and many others. The largest series of commemorative coins of the USSR was issued in honor of the 1980 Olympic Games .
Mostly coins were issued from a copper-nickel alloy of 1 ruble denomination, and since 1987 coins of 3 and 5 ruble denominations have also been minted. In addition, coins were made from silver , gold , platinum and palladium , which were very popular in the international numismatic market.
