Little is known about Palpatine's youth: he was born in the city of Teed on the planet Naboo on the eleventh day of the eighth month of the 82nd year before the Battle of Yavin. Later, he ran for public office several times, but each time he was defeated, until 52 to me. b. he was not elected representative of the Chommel sector in the Galactic Senate after the mysterious assassination of the previous senator, Vidar Kim (it is not known whether Palpatine was involved in the preparation of the assassination).
No less important is the secret life of Palpatine. As the lord of the Sith, Darth Sidious, supposedly a student of Darth Plagueis, he killed his teacher in cold blood while he was sleeping . It is believed that later on he himself much later used the greatest achievement of Plagueis - a living creature created with the help of the Force and possessing great power. Some time after the murder of Plagueis (the data are not accurate, it may have happened before the murder, but in this case it is contrary to the law of Darth Bane, according to which only two Siths can exist at a time) Sidious took the first student to him , giving him the name Darth Maul . Sidious himself raised and raised him a stern, disciplined warrior. In the guise of Darth Sidious, Palpatine contacted the vice-king of the Trade Federation Nuth Gunray and offered him a plan for the blockade of the planet Naboo. It is here that Palpatine’s double play begins - no one except his student knew that he himself actually controlled the two warring parties. But before, with the help of Maul, he had to eliminate threats to his plans from the Black Sun syndicate and residents of the Trade Federation.
Although Palpatine at first seemed to everyone in the Senate a sluggish and unambitious politician, over time Palpatine became very popular on the rising tide of the fight against corruption. This was facilitated by his friendships with many prominent figures, even the Jedi Master Jorus K'baot. Around the same time, Palpatine met with the assistant governor of the provincial sector of Coruscant, Wilhuff Tarkin.
There is also speculation that Palpatine was involved in the assassination of Veruna, King of Naboo.
The complex political intrigues of Palpatine and his supporters in the Senate to 32 to me. b. led to distrust of Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum and his accusations of corruption. During the conflict between the Trade Federation and the planet Naboo, Queen Amidala (at the request of Palpatine himself) passed a vote of no confidence in Valorum, and he was removed from the post of ruler of the Republic by general vote. Soon Palpatine was chosen as the new Supreme Chancellor.
A few days later, the Battle of Naboo took place, in which Palpatine's home planet gained independence, and Darth Maul died in a battle with the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi . Even then, Palpatine noticed Anakin Skywalker for himself, appreciating his potential. At the same time, Sidious's second apprentice, former Jedi Master Count Dooku , Qui-Gon Jinn teacher, and Crown Sereno’s Crown Count, begin to win back part of the plan. He stood at the head of the formed separatist Confederation of Independent Systems. At the same time, the creation of an army of clones began. Officially, the order to create the army was placed by the head of the Jedi Council, Master Sifo Diaz, who was killed a few days later in his house on Coruscant (the murder was ordered by Palpatine).
Over the next ten years, Palpatine kept an eye on Anakin Skywalker and eventually became his friend and mentor in politics and more. A master of multi-way intrigue, Palpatine implicitly pushes his young friend to the dark side , carefully instilling in Skywalker faith in his own exclusiveness, and also in the fact that the Jedi only restrain his development.
Both before and during the Clone Wars, Palpatine’s political intrigues on all fronts did not stop, in particular, the disruption of the Extra Long Flight project, the cloning of Jorus K'baot, and much more. There is also speculation that Palpatine was aware of the threat of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion from outside the galaxy. Perhaps during his apprenticeship, Palpatine had access to the holocrons of the Jedi and Sith, including the records of Revan and Darth Treya, who also predicted the Empire of the True Sith — the Great Darkness from Beyond — and took steps to force the galaxy to consolidate.
At 22 to me. b. Palpatine finally received emergency powers, that is, in fact absolute power, but this did not mean his final victory. When at 22 to me. b. the war began, Palpatine already knew everything about the weaknesses and strengths of Skywalker.
When in 19 to me. b. from beginning to end, the Clone Wars planned by Palpatine and Dooku came to an end, the abduction of Palpatine by General Grievous was organized on the orders of the traitor - Dooku. During the operation to free the Chancellor, Anakin Skywalker killed Dooku on the orders of the Chancellor. After freeing the Chancellor, Anakin and Obi-Wan returned to Coruscant, but soon the new and most terrible trials were waiting for the young Jedi. Even then, the confrontation between the Jedi and the Supreme Chancellor became obvious, and both the Jedi and Palpatine began to use Anakin to spy on each other, while he pursued his own interests - the salvation of his secret beloved Senator Padme Amidala, for which, as he convinced him Palpatine, needed knowledge of the Sith. Anakin did not want to betray either the Jedi or the Chancellor, but nevertheless revealed to Mace Windu a terrible secret: Palpatine and Darth Sidious are the same person. When the four Jedi came to arrest Palpatine, three of them died in a battle with him, and Windu, who continued to fight, realized that Palpatine had concentrated all power in the Republic, and he could not be judged. Only its physical elimination is possible. It was then that Anakin Skywalker intervened in the battle - he sided with Palpatine, which helped him defeat Windu and throw the Jedi out of the window. So Darth Sidious had a new student - Darth Vader .
In the battle with Windu, Palpatine received serious injuries that disfigured him, aging for many years. It is believed that with the flesh of Palpatine there were changes characteristic of the Dark Lords of the past (during the Old Sith Wars, there were cases when the dark lords actually became the living dead - Darth Malak, Darth Sion, Darth Nihilus).
Soon, already during the last battles of the Clonic War, Order 66 was given, a secret order, according to which all the clones were supposed to destroy the Jedi as a political and military force of the galaxy. All Jedi Knights and their followers were declared enemies of society by the Senate and accused of treason to the Republic. All dissent was banned, dissenters were arrested and executed. Soon after, Palpatine announced the transformation of the Republic into the First Galactic Empire, which, as he predicted, was destined to stand for ten thousand years. The few Jedi survivors were subsequently persecuted by Darth Vader as enemies of the state, followed by the Emperor by the Imperial Guard, the Inquisition, the Special Conference and other punitive bodies.
For 24 years, Palpatine ruled the Empire with an iron hand, and Darth Vader led the imperial armed forces. Since 19 to me. b. 4 each to me. b. Palpatine’s life has been full of events. He created a treasury on the planet Weiland, whose guardian was Jorus K'baot, a clone of Jorus K'baot, as well as a secret base on the planet Biss, where many years later the Emperor’s clones will be grown. Also at this time, the son of Irek Ismaren, about whom for many years very few knew, was born to the Emperor and his concubine the Hands of Roganda Ismaren. But, according to the latest sources, Irek’s father was still not Palpatine himself, but his closest adviser, Sartsev Quest. According to this version, Palpatine has no children.
In 0 year, the Emperor learns of a new threat for Vader, as well as a new, more powerful potential student - Luke Skywalker - the son of Anakin Skywalker. Palpatine’s new intrigues were connected with trapping Luke and persuading him to take his side, and in case of failure, to kill. Darth Vader set himself the same goal while nurturing plans to assassinate Palpatine and then seize power. At some point, Palpatine changes his tactics and sends his “hand” to Mar Jade to kill Luke, but she fails. At the same time, Palpatine uses the Black Sun syndicate to trap the Rebel Alliance in the coming battle of Endor.
AT 4 P. I. b. Palpatine’s plan is almost working - the Alliance is trapped due to a rigged information leak, and Luke Skywalker appears on board the unfinished Death Star . Sidious tries to lure him to the side of Darkness, but Luke manages to resist. In anger, Palpatine tries to kill him, but Vader steps up to defend his son, kills Palpatine and returns to the Light side of the Force . Unfortunately, Vader himself fell under the lightning of the Sith and with the death of the emperor Anakin Skywalker also perishes.
Secret knowledge of the Sith allowed Palpatine to save his soul and inhabit the clone's body. 7 years after the Battle of Endor, Palpatine once again becomes the head of the Empire and leads to almost complete victory - the imperial forces again capture Coruscant , and the Emperor kidnaps Luke Skywalker in the hope of luring him to the Dark Side of the Force. Trying to ruin Palpatine's plans from within, Luke takes his side, but Darkness draws him more and more. He really succeeds in stopping the Empire’s invasion of Mon Calamari , but he himself almost suffers from the fate of Darth Vader. Luke repeatedly tries to rebel, but he never managed to kill the emperor. His sister Leia Organa helps Luke return to the Light and destroy Palpatine’s ship, the gigantic super-destroyer Eclipse , and himself by retaking Power Storm, but this is not the final victory over the Sith.
Returning to the new clone, Palpatine built the Galactic Cannon and the new Star Destroyer - Eclipse II , and began to build up strength again. But, despite this, he began to weaken again.
Sith constantly revives in cloned bodies, but these bodies quickly degraded. After visiting Korriban, the Sith spirits invited him to incarnate in the body of the newborn son of Leah and Han Solo , Anakin Solo. However, the combined efforts of Luke, Leia, and the other Jedi lead to an almost final victory over Darth Sidious.
Although many Sith and Jedi, including Luke Skywalker himself, believed that Palpatine did not die, he only retreated, and his spirit would soon return to its new strength.
In addition to the abilities inherent in the Jedi , such as foresight , extrasensory perception , hypnosis , telekinesis, and more, Palpatine (like Count Dooku) possessed a supernatural ability to hit enemies with lightning . Apparently, only the most powerful Jedi Yoda could resist this ability without a sword.
In addition, Palpatine was the only Sith to use the Force Storm to create hyperspace wormholes capable of destroying entire fleets.
According to the general idea of Star Wars , around the two characters - Yoda and Palpatine - a halo of mystery must remain. Palpatine’s personal name was never mentioned in any film or in any book, and how Palpatine was mentioned before the trilogy-prehistory only in the prologue of the novelization of The New Hope by A. Dean Forster :
The conceited senator Palpatine, through intrigues and cunning, became President of the Republic. He promised to pacify the discontented people and to restore the former glory of the Republic. Very soon he proclaimed himself Emperor. Isolated from the people, he became a toy in the hands of those very assistants and toadies whom he appointed to high posts. The appeals of the people for justice no longer reached him.
In general, in the original movie trilogy he is called only the Emperor, so fans, to call him by name, attributed to him the name of the emperor from the draft of Lucas - Cos Dashit ( Cos Dashit ) .
In addition, in fake interviews given by “Lucas” to a person under the pseudonym SuperShadow , who is widely known for “fabricating” stories and passing them off as canon, it was said that his name is Dantius. However, Lucasfilm later announced in Star Wars Insider # 90 that SuperShadow has no relationship with Lucas and LucasFilm, but nonetheless some fans believe Palpatine’s name is Dantius due to a fake interview.
In the Russian translation of Matthew Strover’s book, Episode III Revenge of the Sith, it is sometimes called Kos Palpatine.
In James Luceno’s novel Tarkin, Palpatine bears the name Shiv ( born Sheev Palpatine ), which was invented by George Lucas himself. Subsequently, this name appeared in other materials of the franchise .
