Biography
Lazarus did not come from the royal family; he was married to Militsa , whose pedigree is often kept in order to associate Lazarus with the Nemanics , from Stephen the First Crown . For the first time, Lazarus advanced after the death of Stefan Dusan , when the Serbian kingdom fell apart and the feudal lords began a fierce struggle for primacy. All Serbian greats, including Lazarus, rose to Vukashin who seized power. He invited Louis I of Hungary to help and seized the inheritance and power from Vukashin, and Louis occupied Machva .
Lazarus did not call himself either a king or a king , but only a prince , an autocrat of the whole Serbian land, and lived in Krusevac . In 1376, Lazar won the liberation from the Byzantine patriarch from the curse and recognition of the Serbian patriarchy that he had imposed on Serbia under Stefan Dusan .
Using the death of Louis the Great of Hungary , Lazarus conquered Machva and Belgrade . The Turks Lazar paid an annual tribute, but dreamed of getting rid of them, for which he entered into a military alliance with Tvrtko Bosnian . When in 1389 Sultan Murad I brought an army to Kosovo that far exceeded the army of Lazarus, the fate of Serbia was decided.
According to legend, Lazar made an oath before the battle, in which he called on all Serbian rulers to unite to fight the external enemy in the person of the Turks, threatening those who refuse to defend Serbia [4] :
Who is the Serbin and the Serbian family,
But in Kosovo, he did not come to battle
He did not have a breed from the heart
Not male or female
Nothing was born of his hand.
No rosy wine, no wheat white
Cursed his every knee
The memory of Lazar, who died in the battle, is still preserved in Serbian folk songs. St. Lazarus was beheaded, and his relics were transferred to Ravanitsa .
When, due to the Turkish attack, the monks were forced to leave their monastery in 1690, they moved to the old Vrdnik monastery on Frushka Gora , which was then in decline, and transferred the relics of the holy prince to a new place.
Since 1889, the Order of the Holy Prince Lazarus has been awarded in Serbia. The descendants of Lazarus and Militsa formed the Lazarevichi dynasty.
