Vitagraph

James Stewart Blackton , a former cartoonist and journalist, founded Vitagraph with Albert Smith and Pop Rock . Stuart Blackton and Albert Smith became acquainted with the cinema in the laboratories of Thomas Edison . Blackton designed the device, called "Vitagraph". With his help, he shot his first film - " The Thief on the Roof ." His associates were engaged in the commercial affairs of the company in which he was artistic director. In the early years of the company, he remained the only director of the company. After 1905, he became its artistic director and manages several directors working on his instructions.

In 1898, the film Spanish Flag was torn down . In the same year, the first US film with mock-ups was produced - the sinking of Spanish ships by the US Navy in the bay of Sant'Yago .

In the years 1909-1910, Blackton released a series of films that had great success: " Napoleon ", "The Life of Moses ", " Washington ". He has six directors, and his troupe has 86 actors.

In January 1909, Vitagraph, together with other companies ( Edison Studios , Biograph , Zelig , Essanay Studios , Lubin , Kalem , and two French companies, Pathe and Mellès ") Entered the Film Pathogens Company .

In February 1914, Vitagraph opened its Broadway cinema. In 1925, the company acquired Warner Brothers (to create Vitaphone in 1926).
