Biohazard is an American metal band from New York ( Brooklyn ), one of the first bands to decide to mix hardcore punk and groove metal with hip hop . Although the musicians themselves never considered themselves a hardcore band, Biohazard is often associated with the period of the formation of the hardcore scene in New York, along with bands such as Cro-Mags and Agnostic Front .

Group History
Formation and debut album (1987-1991)
The group was formed in 1987 in the Bensonhurst area of Brooklyn . The initial line-up included bassist / vocalist Evan Seinfeld , guitarist Bobby Humbel and drummer Anthony Meo . Later, guitarist Billy Graziadei joined the band. In this composition, the group publishes its first demo tape, which was published in 1988 . Many journalists believed that the lyrics of the group's songs contain a fascist coloring, and also describe the superiority of the white race over others (despite the fact that Sainfield himself is Jewish). Accusations of racism were actively denied by the members of the group, but a little later Sainfield and Graziadei explained that all this was a simple "publicity stunt" in order to defeat the Carnivore group and its fans. In the end, the group begins to change the theme of their songs. Now in their songs there are sermons on tolerance and the fight against racism. After recording the first demo, drummer Anthony Meo leaves the group, he is replaced by Danny Schuler . The second demo tape comes out in 1989 .
In 1990, Biohazard signed a contract with Maze Records . The debut album was rather poorly promoted. As a result, only about 40,000 copies were sold. The main theme of the songs on this album was the Brooklyn area, violence , drugs , gang shootings, etc. The album included audio clips from the movie The Warriors . After that, the group went on a tour of Europe. There, the musicians realized that all the problems raised in their first album were actually present not only in Brooklyn.
A year after the release of their debut album, Sainfield and Graziadei took part in recording the vocal part in the song Three Dead Gophers from the third album of Mucky Pop - Now . This album was released under the label Roadrunner Records , which subsequently became the label of the second Biohazard album.
Urban Discipline , State of the World Address and Mata Leão (1992-1998)
In 1992, Biohazard signed a contract with Roadrunner Records and released their second album - Urban Discipline , which, in fact, made the band famous all over the world and gave recognition among heavy metal and hardcore bands. The video for the song Punishment was the most broadcast in the history of MTV's Headbanger's Ball , and the album sold over 1,000,000 copies.
In 1993, hardcore rap Onyx recorded an alternative version (" Bionyx ") of their single Slam with Biohazard. This single subsequently became the soundtrack for the film Judgment Night and was sold in over 2,000,000 copies in the United States .
A few months later, the band left Roadrunner Records and signed a new contract with Warner Bros. Records . The third studio LP , State of the World Address, was released . The album was produced by Ed Stasium in Los Angeles. The album contained the single “How It Is”, which was performed in collaboration with Sen-Dog from Cypress Hill and for which a clip was also shot. The State of the World Address was sold with a print run of 1,000,000 copies, and Rolling Stone magazine chose the Biohazard logo as the best logo of the year. This was the last Biohazard album with Bobby Hambel, who subsequently left the group due to disagreements with the rest of the members. Humbel worked for some time with White Devil , also with Cro-Mags , before finally leaving the music business. At the end of 1995 the group together with Therapy? and Gunshot made several remixes based on the Pitchshifter album - The Remix War .
The group recorded their fourth album, Mata Leão , in 1996 . The album was produced by Dave Gerden . For their Mata Leao tour in 1996, the band hired former Helmet guitarist Rob Echeverria . Also in 1996, Biohazard participated in Ozzfest along with Ozzy Osbourne , Slayer , Danzig , Fear Factory and Sepultura .
New World Disorder , Uncivilization and Kill Or Be Killed (1999-2003)
In 1999, the band signed a contract with Mercury Records and recorded their fifth studio album - New World Disorder . Ed Stasium became the producer again. The relationship between the band and Mercury Records quickly deteriorated; band members felt cheated and decided to break ties with a recording studio.
In 2000, the group continued tours in Europe and Japan without support from the labels. In 2001, the group released a collection of songs Tales From The B-Side . The album contains various rare recordings, B-sides, remixes created over the entire existence of the group. The album was released under the Phantom Sound & Vision label. After the release of the disc, Rob Echeverria left the group. Leo Curley ( Outline , All Means Necessary ) has replaced.
In the same year, Biohazard signed two more new contracts: with SPV / Steamhammer in Europe and with Sanctuary Records in the rest of the world. But, despite new deals, the group also managed to set aside time to work on other projects.
Graziadei created a trip-hop project with a member of the Hilo group - Jennifer Bair . About 20 songs were recorded for the new project (the project was called Blu ), after which Bayr moved to Los Angeles . On this project was stopped. Graziadei began work on the book Tales From The Hardside . Schuler performed as a drummer in the band Among Thieves (to replace the departed Will Shapler ).
Soon Graziadei and Schuler began work on the sixth studio album Biohazard - Uncivilization [4] , which will be released in September 2001 . Musicians from other bands such as Agnostic Front , Hatebreed , Pantera , Slipknot , Sepultura , Cypress Hill , Skarhead and Type O Negative also participated in the recording of the album. Shortly after the release of Uncivilization, Leo Curley left the band, deciding to start writing his own music. He will be replaced by a former member of the Nucleus group - Carmine Vincent .
The group was forced to cancel the planned festivals in Europe, as Carmine Vincent had a difficult operation. The group managed to find a temporary guitarist - Scott Roberts from Cro-Mags .
The musicians recorded their seventh album in 17 days; Kill Or Be Killed was launched in 2003 . During a North American tour with Kittie , Brand New Sin and Eighteen Visions , Biohazard announced that Roberts would remain as a permanent guitarist. The tour was stopped when it was announced that Sainfield was ill.
Arriving home, Sainfield began working on recording demos for his new trip-hop project Triplesicks .
Disintegration and Reunion (2004 — present)
At the end of 2004, the band began recording their eighth studio album, Means To An End , which was released in August 2005 .
In mid-summer 2011, Evan Seinfeld announced his departure from the group, and Biohazard launched a campaign to find a new vocalist. [5] Scott Roberts returned temporarily to the group to replace Evan in a couple of concerts. In August of that year, the group officially began listening to candidates. In September 2011, three months after leaving the band, Seinfeld joined Attika 7, which also included Tony Campos, bassist Soulfly , the debut album Blood of My Enemies was released in 2013.
In January 2012, the group decided that Scott Roberts would remain in the group as a regular member. The band records and releases their tenth studio album Reborn In Defiance on January 20, 2012 via Nuclear Blast Records. It was produced by Toby Wright , who previously worked with Korn , Slayer , Motley Crue , Kiss , Fear Factory , In Flames and Stone Sour .
In the second half of January, Biohazard went on a short European tour in support of the album with the band Suicidal Tendencies . On January 22, drummer Danny Schuler, for family reasons, left the band on tour.
During 2013-2014, the group continued to perform with concerts in Europe and North America.
In July 2015, drummer Danny Schuller hinted that the band was working on a new album.
On February 10, 2016, the group announced that all previously planned concerts were canceled due to the departure of bassist Scott Roberts.
In December 2017, Roberts explained that he left the group because he did not get along with one of the other members and did not want to be in the group anymore.
On June 23, 2017, the debut album of the new band Billy Graziadea Powerflo was released . Graziadei formed a group with Sen Dog (Senen Rayes) from Cypress Hill , Rogelio Lozano (ex- Downset ) and Christian Olde Weberz (ex- Fear Factory ).
