The Central River is a county in the central Gambia . Previously called MacCarthy Island ( MacCarthy Island ) on the island located on the Gambia River.

Geography
In the west it borders with the North Coast district, in the southwest with the Lower River district, in the east with the Upper River district, in the north and south with Senegal . Through the entire territory of the district, the Gambia River flows from east to west.
