He studied with Moritz Hauptmann . From 1847 he played in the court orchestra of the principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen , in 1880 his bandmaster. He wrote a musical and local history review "Organs in the Duchy of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen" ( it. Die Orgeln im Fürstentum Schwarzburg-Sondershausen 1870-1883 ), reprinted in 1991. Author of three operas, choral and vocal compositions. He was one of the first teachers of Hugo Riemann .
