Story
The world of Vega was depleted as a result of the use of the powerful radioactive substance Vegatron. In search of a planet for resettlement, the ruthless king of Vega sends his army, consisting of flying saucers and giant monsters, to capture neighbors - the highly developed, but peaceful planet Flid. The once-blooming Flid turns into a radioactive desert. The only surviving representative of the royal family, Prince Duke Fleed, manages to steal the combat robot Grendizer, created by the Vega empire based on the scientific achievements of the planet Fleed.
Fleeing from his pursuers, Duke Flid falls into the solar system and makes an emergency landing in Japan on the slope of Mount Yatsu in Hokkaido , where he is found dying by Dr. Genzo Amon, a famous scientist, director of the Institute for the Study of Space. Amon passes off the young stranger to his son Dice and helps him hide the Grandizer under the institute. Under the name Daisu, Amon Duke Fleed takes a job at the neighboring White Birch Ranch, owned by former cowboy Danbei Makib. Dunbei's daughter, Hikari, is not indifferent to Dice, but does not know about his origin.
Two years later, Koji Kabuto returned to Japan after designing in the United States (as well as controlling the Mazinger Z combat robot in the fight against Dr. Hell's Earth threat), who designed and built his own flying saucer. He goes to the Institute, attracted by rumors about the appearance of UFOs in these places. Koji plans to make contact with extraterrestrial civilization and, if possible, make peace. Dyce, however, suspects that this is a Vega flotilla under the command of Commander Blackie and General Handel, preparing to enslave the Earth. Koji ignores Dice's warnings and flies to meet the arriving mini-odds [2] that immediately attack him. To save Koji and all of humanity, Dyce has to remember his past and use the Grendizer, hidden under a laboratory.
To attack the Earth, the aliens established a military base called Skull Moon [3] on the dark side of the moon . Soon, Kouji discovered the true identity of Duke Fleed, and their little rivalry turned into friendship. Dunbei's daughter, Hikari, also found out Dice's secret and became a pilot, contrary to his objections. After the death of Blackie in the battle with Grendizer, King Vega appointed Minister of Science Zuril to help Handel.
Subsequently, it turned out that there are two more survivors from the planet Flid who live on Earth: Duke's younger sister, Maria Flid and the man who saved her. Caught in a crossfire between Grendizer and a monster from Vega, he managed to tell Mary before her death that she was the last surviving member of the royal Flid dynasty. Maria vowed revenge on Grandizer and his pilot. She attempted to ambush Duke, Koji and Hikari at the gates of the Institute. But during the attack, Maria notices Duke's royal medallion (the same as hers) and realizes her mistake. Separated brother and sister find themselves together again, and Mary becomes the last member of the team.

Grendizer battle robot
Initially, the anime “Alien Robot Grendizer” was planned with a completely different idea - the name was “Great battle of flying saucers”. It was a pilot series.
The cardinal differences were both in the characters and in the Grandizer, which in the pilot series was called Hattiger Gattay ( Japanese соединение体, connection, combination) , and in the planned storyline.
The plot was that the main enemy was Princess Terron from the planet Yaban under the guidance of her father (prototype of the emperor Vega, but bearded). Hattiger also flew out of the spacer, but in the folded mode it was an invisible part, and outwardly looked more like a Combattler V than distinguished by its originality.
The series was changed almost immediately - Koji Kabuto was introduced, respectively, so that the main robot corresponds to the main idea of Guo Nagai - super robots, it was changed into the familiar Grandizer.
