Biography
Born in the town of Lialunai . He graduated from high school in Kaunas ( 1949 ). In 1954 he graduated from Vilnius State University with a degree in Lithuanian Language and Literature. In 1952 - 1956 he worked as a literary employee, then as the department head, then as executive secretary in the journal Tarybinė moteris ( “Tarybinė moteris” ; “Soviet Woman”). Then in 1956 - 1990 (intermittently) in the editorial office of the literary magazine "Pärgale" ( " Pergalė " ; "Victory"), in 1964 - 1967 and in 1985 - 1989 - the editor-in-chief of the magazine. Since 1955, a member of the Lithuanian Writers Union . Lives in Vilnius .

- 1966 - Laureate of the festival "Spring of Poetry".
- 1967 - Lithuanian Komsomol Prize for the book "Wandering Mountain" ( "Keliaujantis kalnas" ).
- 1974 - prize of the collective farm to them. S. Neris “For the best rural poem of the year”.
- 1986 - People's poet of the Lithuanian SSR [3]
- 2005 - Prize of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania in the field of art.
Creativity
Since 1955, he has published over twenty collections of poems, as well as articles on Lithuanian poetry. Baltakis's poems were translated into Latvian , Russian . He translated poems by Alexander Blok , Rasul Gamzatov , Oyar Vatsietis into Lithuanian . He also translated poems by A. S. Pushkin “D. V.
