At the 1904 Games in St. Louis, Spanger competed in the light (up to 61.2 kg) and welterweight (up to 65.8 kg) weight [1] . In the first discipline, he became a champion, winning all three of his fights. In the second, he went to the finals, but lost there to Albert Young , receiving a silver medal.
