Hetero- (from the Greek. Ἕτερος “different, different”) - a prefix used in the formation of some words, which has the meaning in the Russian language “foreign”, “different”, “different”.
It is used mainly in scientific terms. It occurs both in words more or less directly borrowed from the ancient Greek language (especially with regard to the terms of Greek grammar, philosophy, etc.), and in new terms constructed in modern times according to the Greek model. Most of these terms are based on Greek roots, however, there are common terms containing this prefix with Latin, and possibly even with English roots, although the latter, as a rule, can hardly be attributed to a purely literary style or is comic.
Examples: heterogeneity , heterosis , heterophony , heterosexuality (“hetero” also occurs as a colloquial form of the term).
