Governorships
Muscat Governorship
Muscat is the political, economic and administrative center of the Sultanate of Oman. Here is the capital of the country, Muscat, the government and the central organs of the administrative apparatus of the state. Muscat Governorate is also a vital center of national and international relations in the field of economy, trade and tourism. The governorate is located on the shore of the Gulf of Oman , in the southern part of the Batyn coast. According to the latest census (2010), 775,878 people live in the governorate. The governorate includes six forks: Muscat, Mutra, Bausher, Sib, al-Amirat and Kuriyat. Each wilaya is governed by a wali appointed by the governor of Muscat.
Dofar Governorship
This governorship in southern Oman plays a significant role in the ancient and modern history of Oman . Being the "Land of Incense" of the Arabian Peninsula , Dofar was also the gateway of Oman to the Indian Ocean and the crossroads of the caravan routes of South Arabia. Salalah, the main city of the Dofar Governorate, is located 1000 km from Muscat . Dofar borders the Wust region in the northeast, overlooks the Arabian Sea in the southeast and south, has a border with the Republic of Yemen in the west and southwest, and reaches the Rub al-Khali desert (Empty Quarter) in the north and north west. Dofar, with a population of 249,729 people (according to the 2010 census), has 10 forks: Salalah , Tumrait , Taka , Mirbat , Sadakh , Rahyut , Dalkut , Mukshin , Shalim and the islands of Hallaniyat .
Musandam Governorship
The Musandam governorship is of exceptional strategic importance because it is located on the shores of the Strait of Hormuz, the most important international sea route for oil export and trade between the Gulf countries and the rest of the world. Musandam is located in the far north of the country, where the Strait of Hormuz connects the area with the open waters of the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean. It consists of four Vilayas: Khasab, Bukh, Daba al-Bahia and Mada. There are registered 31 425 inhabitants (2010).
Burami Governorship
It was established by Decree of the Sultan No. 108/2006 of October 15, 2006. It received priority status in the Seventh Five-Year Plan (2006-2010), which is expressed in support of road construction, electrification and other projects, along with plans for the development of the industrial zone. Buraimi Governorate, located in the north-west of Oman, occupies an exceptional strategic and commercial position. Due to the abundance of water resources in the valleys and irrigation canals, wheat is grown here, as well as dates and other fruits. Buraimi has three villas: Buraimi, Mahda, al-Sinain. According to the 2010 census, 72,917 people lived in the governorate.
The heads of regions are appointed by the Minister of the Interior and subordinate to him, then went to 59 vilayets .
