History
It was founded in Havana in August 1925 as the Cuban Communist Party ( Spanish: Partido Comunista Cubano ). The founders of the party were Carlos Balinho , Julio Antonio Mella and Jose Miguel Perez Perez . In 1926, the CCP was outlawed and, until September 1938, operated underground.
Leaving the underground, in the conditions of the growing democratic movement in the country, the CPC took part in the elections to the Constituent Assembly in 1939, having received 6 seats. Communist deputies played a prominent role in the preparation and adoption of the progressive constitution (1940) . In the same year, as a result of the merger of the CPC and the Revolutionary Union, it was called the Revolutionary Communist Union ; Blas Roca became the Secretary General and Juan Marinello as Chairman. The party initially supported Gerardo Machado and Fulgencio Batista . Communist leader Carlos Rafael Rodriguez even entered the Batista government in 1940 as a minister without a portfolio . In January 1944, the party was renamed the People's Socialist Party of Cuba (NSPK).
After the coup d'etat (1952) and the establishment of the Fulgencio Batista dictatorial regime, the NSPK opposed it and in November 1953 the party's activity was banned. Although she did not support the fight of the rebels Fidel Castro from the very beginning, in 1958 the NSPK came out in support of them.
In 1961, the NSPK teamed up with the July 26th Movement and the March 13th Revolutionary Directorate to form the United Revolutionary Organizations ( Spanish Organizaciones Revolucionarias Integradas ), which in 1962–63 were transformed into the United Party of the Socialist Revolution of Cuba ( Spanish Partido Unido de la Revolución Socialista de Cuba ). In October 1965, the latter was renamed the Communist Party of Cuba.
In the same 1965, the party organized its Central Committee at the end of the process of uniting all revolutionaries. In 1975, the First Congress of the CPC was held, the subsequent ones took place in 1980, 1986, 1991, 1997, 2011 and 2016.
Over the past 40 years, the CCP has demonstrated a high level of unity, the first and last internal party dispute in its history, the so-called. microfraction case , took place in 1968.
