Vampires in the cinema

The first movie, which has survived to this day in full, in which the vampire is directly involved, is the 1922 film " Nosferatu. Symphony of Horror , directed by Friedrich Murnau . Murnau changed the names, the scene and, to some extent, the plot of the film. However, this did not help, and Bram Stoker's widow Florence Stoker accused Prana Film GmbH of plagiarizing and won the lawsuit. According to the court, all existing copies of the film were supposed to be destroyed, but in the 1930s pirated copies of the film appeared, which allowed to reproduce and save the film. In 1927, the first American horror film featuring a vampire was released ^[1] . The film was called " London After Midnight " (London After Midnight), the main role in it was played by Lon Cheney . One of the most significant films about vampires was the 1931 film adaptation of Dracula with White Lugosi as Dracula.

Dracula and his legacy

By far, the most famous and popular vampire in the movies is Count Dracula . The total number of films about him has long exceeded a hundred, which makes him one of the most frequently portrayed characters in horror films. Dracula is close in popularity and its antagonist is Professor Van Helsing .

There were attempts to make films about vampires before Dracula, but it was the appearance on the screen of this character that contributed to the popularization of the genre. By 1922, due to the enormous popularity of Bram Stoker's novel, the image of Count Dracula was realized in many genres, including in theatrical productions.
