Wikia Search is a free, open search engine and part of Wikia (formerly Wikigorod) served by Wikia, Inc., a commercial company founded in 2004 by Jimbo and Beazley . [1] The available alpha version was launched on January 7, 2008. [2] Wikia, in turn, is based on the Lucene Java search engine Nutch (eng.) . The initial version of the search interface has been sharply criticized by leading news agencies. [3] [4]
