Khlepin is a village in the Smolensk region of Russia , in the Sychevsky district . It is located in the northeastern part of the region, 17 km northeast of Sychevka , on the P134 highway, on the left bank of the Vazuzi river ( Vazuzskoye reservoir ). The population is 240 inhabitants ( 2007 ).

History
In the IX century, an ancient Russian settlement appeared on the territory of the settlement, which was burned in the XIII century . The village was rebuilt in the XIV-XV centuries.
In the XIX - early XX centuries, the village of Khlepen was part of the Tver province . In 1888 - the center of the Khlepensky parish of the Ignatov parish of the Zubtsovsky district , 33 courtyards, 104 residents [1] . Since 1923 - in the Rzhevsky district . From 1929 in the Sychevsky district of the Western region , from 1937 in the Smolensk region, the center of the Khlepen village council , from 1993 to 1999 - the Khlepen village administration, from 1999 to 2005 - the Khlepen rural district. From January 1, 2006 to October 2, 2015, the administrative center of the Khlepensky rural settlement . On October 2, 2015, the administration of the Khlepen rural settlement was annexed to the administration of the Nikolsky rural settlement [2] .
During the years of World War II, the area around Horsefly became the scene of fierce fighting. Horseradish was occupied by the enemy in October 1941. In August 1942, units of the 20th Army of the Western Front came to the opposite bank of the Vazuz bank during the Pogorel-Gorodishchensky army offensive operation, which was part of the Rzhev-Sychev offensive operation , but could not force the river. The offensive resumed only on November 25, 1942 during Operation Mars. The village was liberated on the night of December 1, mainly by the forces of the 150th and 148th Rifle Brigades of the 8th Guards Rifle Corps of the 20th Army .
