The order was established in 1928 to award Lithuanian and foreign citizens for hard and honest work in the public service or in public activities.

The Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas has five degrees and a medal of the order.

Content

History

The Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas was established in 1928 and initially had four degrees.

Named in honor of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas [1] (Gedeminas).

The second-time establishment of the Order of Lithuania.

Canceled in 1940 after the incorporation of the Republic of Lithuania into the USSR .

The order was reinstated after Lithuania seceded from the USSR on the basis of the Law of the Republic of Lithuania “On Orders, Medals and Other Insignia” Nr.I-1799 of September 12, 1991 .

Degrees of the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas

 33 article. Structure of the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas

1. The Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas has five degrees.

2. Signs of the Order are: the Grand Cross, the Grand Commander’s Cross, the Commander’s Cross, the Officer’s Cross and the Knight’s Cross.

3. The grand cross of the order is:

1) a cross - silver, 50 mm in size, blackened by oxidation, in the middle covered with white enamel, in the stylized golden sun. In the center of the cross is a quadrangle covered with red enamel, with gold edges, with silver pillars of the Gadiminovichs. The reverse side of the cross is the same, but in the quadrangle, instead of the pillars of the Gediminids, the years of the reign of Gediminas “1316–1341” are inscribed;
2) a star - silver, nine-beam, with a diameter of 85 mm. In the center - a reduced sign of the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas;
3) ribbon - yellow moire, 100 mm wide (for women - 65 mm wide), with four dark brown stripes at the edges.

4. The Grand Commander's Cross of the Order is:

1) the cross - like a big cross;
2) a star - like the Big Cross;
3) ribbon - like the ribbon of the Big Cross, but 40 mm wide.

5. The command cross of the order is:

1) the cross - like a big cross;
2) ribbon - like the ribbon of the Big Cross, but 40 mm wide.

6. The officer cross of the order is:

1) the cross - like a Big Cross, but the size of 42 mm;
2) ribbon - like the ribbon of the Big Cross, but 32 mm wide, with a socket.

7. The knight's cross of the order is:

1) the cross - like a Big Cross, but the size of 42 mm;
2) ribbon - like the ribbon of the Big Cross, but 32 mm wide. [2]
